Community Training Homes (CTH 1) provide adults with disabilities the opportunity to live in a nurturing, homelike environment with trained caregivers. These caregivers are everyday citizens who open their homes to offer individualized, daily care.

WHO QUALIFIES?
CTH I homes serve individuals eligible for services through the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN). To qualify, individuals must meet criteria in one of the following categories:
Intellectual Disability
Related Disability
Head Injury
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Spinal Cord Injury
Similar Disability (related to head or spinal cord injuries)
DDSN may determine a need for residential services if the individual:
1. Has been abused, neglected, or exploited
2. Is homeless or exiting a temporary placement
3. Has seriously harmed themselves or others
4. Was judicially admitted to DDSN
5. Has lost a primary caregiver
6. Has a caregiver aged 80+ with diminished capacity
CTH When an individual is placed in your home, they have the following rights as a citizen:
– Fully accessible home environment
– Privacy, dignity and freedom from coercion or restraint
– Autonomy and choice in daily life and services
– Legal lease or residential agreement
– Right to privacy, including lockable doors, roommate choice and personalized furnishings
– Integrated setting with access to community life
– Control over schedule, food access, and visitors
– Homes must pass rigorous safety and utility inspections
– Maximum 2 residents per caregiver/ provider
