There are thousands of children and youth nationwide currently available for adoption that have not been able to reunify with their biological families. Our children are often living in foster care with caring families ~ but this is meant to be temporary until a permanent adoptive family is located. These children are school age and older youth who may have experienced more serious physical or emotional trauma in their lives. They need and deserve the long-term stability of living with a permanent loving family that has made a forever commitment to them.
Wendy’s Wonderful Kids is making a difference for South Carolina children in the foster care system — one child at a time. The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption awarded four grants to Growing Home Southeast, Inc. These awards include professionals who implement proactive, child-focused recruitment programs targeted exclusively on moving America’s longest-waiting children from foster care into adoptive families.
Recently released research from a five-year evaluation of Wendy’s Wonderful Kids shows that children referred to the program are up to three times more likely to get adopted. Read more about the research here.
Our professionals, known as Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiters, work with children that have been in the system much too long and who have a plan of adoption. The Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Model ensures our recruiters have the time and resources to give each child as much attention as he or she deserves. These recruiters employ aggressive practices and proven tactics focused on finding the best adoptive home for a child through the starting points of familiar circles of extended family, friends and neighbors, and then reaching out to the communities in which they live.
